Wikimedia, the sixth most visited website in the world, is all about reducing barriers to free knowledge. Did you know that they have introduced a way for even more people to have affordable access to that knowledge base?
Their latest initiative, Wikipedia Zero, enables users in developing countries to access Wikipedia free of data charges. Mobile handset prices have dropped significantly in recent years, but data charges can still be as high as 25% of monthly income in places like Kenya. This invaluable partnership with mobile providers will further assist the efforts of many to fulfill their dreams of running a business, including those underserved entrepreneurs who get help from crowdfunders like Kiva.
Today we are excited to tell you about a new search we have started for the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that supports Wikipedia, Wikipedia Zero and their sister projects. We have partnered with Wikimedia on a search for their first Chief Communications Officer.
In the shell of a nut, we are looking for senior communications professionals with compelling backgrounds in areas such as politics, nonprofits, foundations and technology – especially those working with social movements that have a community following. We would especially like to speak with candidates who have lived and/or worked in other countries and have language skills in addition to fluent English.
We encourage our readers to share the news of this search.
Chaloner, founded in 1979 as Chaloner Associates, is a national executive search firm that focuses on recruiting mid- to senior-level communications, public relations, marketing and investor relations professionals.
