How is 2014 going to be different from 2013? Now is the time to plan what you’re going to do for your job and your career.
1. Remember the big picture.
We are always getting bogged down in details, and sometimes being able to check off everything in our to do list at the end of the day feels great. However, we’ve all had a bigger vision of what we can do and what we should be doing. What are you going to do to reach that greater goal?
2. Measure yourself.
Perhaps at the end of each month you schedule a check-in and ask: How am I doing on my big picture goal? And not just compiling a lot of data and statistics, but a real check on how you’re progressing. Don’t be afraid to do this because you fear you won’t have made progress, you will probably surprise yourself.
3. Call a friend.
To hold yourself to your goals, it’s helpful to let someone else know what you are up to and you’ll get a different perspective and valuable advice.
4. “Get Unstuck and Get Going.”
Get off your butt isn’t just a metaphor for getting going, it is literally good advice. Figure out what is holding you back and address it. If you have to make an unfavorable change, be confident in your choice and make the change.
5. Go Big
Whether it’s participating in a cause you believe in or writing an eBook, make your goal big and you’ll thank yourself at the end of the year.
Let’s make 2014 a great year!
